Two Victories For Monster Energy Kawasaki In Season Opener

The FIM Championship Monster Energy AMA Supercross kicked off with a wet and slippery 2008 season opener with both Monster Energy Kawasaki team riders marching their way to the podium at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif.

According to Kawasaki.com, James Stewart underwent troubled situations in the first turn following a hit from his rear and right into the core of the curves. On the other hand, Timmy Ferry rushed in smoothly, running fourth in the first turn. Ferry zoomed in to the second halfway through the race. Ferry and Stewart even had a clash at some point before the final lap. Then finally, Stewart seized a third-place finish.

“I think I spun a little bit at the gate but overall it was good. I felt like I was by myself, saw where I wanted to be and I think I could have pulled out a holeshot. Then I got hit in the rear and that was the end of the story. I tried to pick up my bike and someone’s bike was on mine so I had to wait for him to pick it up. By that time I knew it would be a tough race,” says James Stewart.

“In the main, I made a good start and I was just being patient but then I made a huge mistake. I was accidentally in first gear for the triple, I didn’t know and by the time I realized it, it was too late. I came up way short and that was the end of my night,” added Stewart.

“The track definitely wasn’t easy,” said Ferry. “It was tacky and rutty out there all night. You’re dragging your pegs on the face of jumps. it can be a little scary sometimes. It wasn’t muddy but it wasn’t easy at the same time. I was bummed out with the rain here, because the dirt here was new this weekend.”

James Toseland All- Set For The MotoGP Series

The image “http://www.sportinglife.com/pictures/general/toselandsilverstone05.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

The 2008 MotoGP series is certainly another exciting season to look forward to. If MotoGP enthusiasts are all fired-up, what more if you belonged to one of the competing teams, or if you probably were the driver? It’s adrenaline-pumping, isn’t it? I’d probably shake with my fuel injector if I were one!

According to Telegraph.co.uk, James Toseland confesses that the new season ahead brings out the prime challenge of his racing career. However, Toseland, a two-time champ of the World Superbike crown, is ready to bring back British pride in the world-renowned MotoGP series.

Toseland will set the racetracks on fire along with the Tech3 Yamaha team. On the other hand, Toseland intends to stop the 30-year drought of success from the time when the iconic Barry Sheene race to victory lane in the thrilling days of Britain's last world 500cc champion. Furthermore, the 27-year-old driver will be carrying the British industry flag.

Toseland went through severe training during the sport's imposed Christmas testing ban. As a result, Toseland shed a few pounds in weight as tries untiringly to develop his power-to-weight ratio for the quicker, lighter and more dominant bike which he will be using.

Toseland said: "The first time out on the MotoGP bike was an eye opener - it is a prototype machine, compared to the production bike I had been racing. The level of performance was so much higher, matching the technology."

"I've not seen it yet, but Valentino Rossi and my team-mate Colin Edwards have been testing various electronics and chassis components and the feedback has been good," he said. "Between now and the first race, which is under lights at Qatar in March, we have 11 days of testing and I will be using every moment available.

"My intention is to go into that first race with as much chance of getting a result as anyone else - I have worked for seven years to get this opportunity and do not intend to let it slip," this driver concluded.

Vermeulen Gets The Seven

In MotoGP news, Chris Vermeulen will now be able to use the iconic number seven on his bike. The said number has been made famous in the 70s by the late Barry Sheene. It can be remembered that Sheene was instrumental on Vermeulen's entry into the racing series. The former driver touted Vermeulen as a hot prospect.

In 2003, Sheene lost his battle with cancer and to show his appreciation for the late great, Vermeulen used the number 71 as the number seven was being used by Carlos Checa. This year though, Checa will be joining the Superbike series, leaving the number 7 free for Vermeulen to take.

As can be expected, Vermeulen was pleased that he will finally be able to use the number seven. "I am really pleased to have secured the number seven on my bike for 2008. Barry was a huge influence on my career and I always had it in my mind to one day race a Suzuki with the number that he made famous on it," said Vermeulen.

"I just hope that I now have the same success that he enjoyed! It was an honour for me to ride his bike at a demonstration event in England a couple of years ago and then to have the retro livery on my bike at Phillip Island last year that was also inspired by one of Sheene’s bikes was just awesome, so for me to now compete with the number seven is like the icing on the cake! It has been over 30 years since Barry won his second world title and I will be doing all I can to make sure that I follow in his footsteps and make it my lucky number seven as well."

In the seventies, Sheene was able to win two championships while sporting the number seven. The bike he used may have been able to outrace any vehicle equipped with Land Rover radiators.

Stoner Finishes Ahead Of Schedule

http://www.mrnews.it/wp-content/uploads/casey_stoner.jpg

The preparations of each contending team in the upcoming season of the world-renowned MotoGP World Championship are making the best out of their practice tests at Sepang in Malaysia. Weather has been highly favorable which provided a positive start for the crew and the drivers. Leading the pack is the young and the reigning world champion Casey Stoner. Ducati’s superstar driver was capable enough to finish with a stunning record of 2'01.836.

According to Ducati Racing Headlines, Casey Stoner’s positive mood has been partly because of the latest GP8 that allowed him to get straight into a severe tire tests. It also allowed him to try out long test runs in the afternoon.

"That was much better than yesterday! I felt much more comfortable on the bike from the first lap, so much so that we were able to start some front tyre tests for Bridgestone straight away. We've found some really interesting things and definitely a good base for the season - the Japanese guys are doing a great job. After lunch we starter a long run and everything went great for the first ten laps. I had a good pace together, inside lap record, but then we started to get a strange vibration from the rear that was upsetting the bike in a couple of braking areas. I preferred to stop to try and work out what it was and we found a small problem with the clutch. We went back out again on the same tyres but started to get cramps in my left arm, so we decided it was better not to push it too much and to sit the rest of the day out. When I think that I was still suffering from pain in my shoulder only a week ago I have to be really happy with how things are going. I'm still not 100% but I'm able to ride much better than I expected. Now I know that I can begin making the right preparations to be ready for the start of the season. We'll keep working with Bridgestone tomorrow and give the new qualifiers a try,” says Casey Stoner.

Stoner Fulfilled In Sepang, Phillip Island Is Next!

http://www.rideontwo.com/gallery/d/429-2/mgp_2006_10_27_Valencia_CaseyStoner_7831.jpg

I guess this wouldn’t be a surprise anymore. Ducati superstar and world champ driver Casey Stoner sustained his positive performance during the MotoGP tests at Sepang Circuit in Malaysia. Once again, Stoner completed his 27th and final lap at exactly 12:26pm in the third and final day test and that is way ahead of schedule! What a fast dude. I bet he’ll leave you shaking with your trunk strut if you happen to race with this young man. Unbelievable!

According Ducati.com headlines, the World Champion clocked a best time on race tires of 2'00.964 and a 2'00.660 on qualifiers. The Ducati MotoGP Team packed and flew to Phillip Island, Australia for another three days of testing starting January 30 to February 1. Stoner and the team left Malaysia satisfied with their great performance in Sepang Circuit.

Casey Stoner's best time on race tyres: 2'00.964; best time on qualifiers: 2'00.660 (27 laps). That would be his stats.

"We couldn't have started the year better! My shoulder feels better every day and now I know I can get back to full training. This morning we tried some qualifying tyres on only our second run out. We set a good lap time although I think if we'd have tried them a little later, when the track was warmer, we could have broken the two-minute mark. In fact, at the end of the morning we set a 2'00.964 on race tyres, which is over a second inside the lap record we set in September. It shows that we are working well and that both the bike and tyres are improving. I'm leaving Sepang feeling really happy - partly because my shoulder hasn't given me too many problems and partly because I feel even more competitive than last season. Now we have to focus on this season and on getting the best possible start, so I can't wait to continue testing at Phillip Island. I also want to send my best wishes to Dani! I'm sure this injury won't affect him too much. Back in 2006 I missed most of the winter tests and I still started the season competitive so I'm sure he will too because he was looking really strong out here," Stoner gushed.

Here are some of the statistics at the event:
